Preparing For Ramadan Tip #10

Preparing For Ramadan Tip #10: Purify your heart and home from PRESENT distractions [social media, movies and shows, unnecessary socializing, etc] and PAST distractions [resentment, jealousy, grudges].

Here are three practical tips that will help you purify your heart and mind from distractions this Ramadan — insha Allah:

  1. The Prophet likened the Muslim’s heart to a moon that shines until it gets covered with clouds, and once the clouds leave it, it shines again (Hasan, Al-Silsilah Al-Sahihah). What is it that takes away the clouds on the heart? Remembrance of Allah. Make dhikr and istighfaar to remove the darkness from your heart and repent from any sins.

  2. Prioritize your Hereafter. Stop focusing on this life and putting it first. When you make the Hereafter your priority, Allah will bless your present life (the dunya). The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever’s intention is the Hereafter, Allah will gather his affairs for him, put richness in his heart, and the dunya will be forced to come to him.” (Sahih Ibn Majah)

  3. Remind yourself that every moment in Ramadan is precious. It is the most blessed time of the year. Wasting it is worse than wasting away your wealth or possessions. It was said that Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: “I met people who were more careful of their time than you are with your dinars and dirhams.”
