Preparing for Ramadan Tip #5
Preparing for Ramadan Tip #5:
đ·Encouraging children to worship Allah and train them on it is the way of our Prophet ï·ș and the pious predecessors:đ·
Al-Rubayâ bint Muâawidh (Allah be pleased with her) said while describing how the Prophet told them to fast âAashuraâ:
âWe used to make toys out of dyed wool for the children and keep them with us so if the children asked us for food we would give them the toys to distract them until they completed their fast.â (Sahih Muslim)
Al-Nawawi states in his commentary on Sahih Muslim: âIn this narration we are shown that children should be trained to do acts of obedience and get used to performing acts of worship although they are not legally bound.â
One of the Salaf, Zubayd bin Al Yaami, was the muâadhin of his masjid and he would tell the young boys: âCome and pray and I will give you walnuts.â So they (the boys) would pray and then surround him. He was asked about that and he said: âWhy should I not buy them walnuts worth five dirhams and in return they get used to praying?â (Siyaar Aâlaam an-Nubalaa)
And Al-Manaawi said:Â âJust as your parents have rights over you, so too your child has rights over you, rather many rights, such as teaching them the individual obligations, teaching them Islamic manners, giving them gifts equally, etc.â(Fayd al-Qadeer, 2/574)
