What is True Ghinaa (Contentment)?

ليسَ الغِنى عن كَثْرَةِ العَرَضِ، ولَكِنَّ الغِنى غِنى النَّفْسِ

“Contentment is not found in owning many possessions; rather contentment is found in having a soul that is content.”

— The Prophet Muhammadﷺ

(Sahih Bukhari)

How many people own every possession and luxury imaginable yet are the most miserable and ungrateful of people?! And how many people of simple means live with hearts full of content and gratitude to Allah? This is the paradox of this dunya — as our Prophet, peace be upon him, eloquently told us.

The key to acquiring a content heart/soul is to be practice gratitude. Be grateful for every blessing Allah has given you, big or small. Never compare your situation to others unless you are looking at those in worse situations. In time and with Allah’s help, you will find your heart filling with contentment.
