Allah’s name Al Lateef

“Should not He Who has created know? And He is Al-Lateef (The Subtle in His kindness and knowledge), All-Aware.”

‎أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ ‎

(Quran 67:14)

Allah’s name Al-Lateef means the One who is kind to you in ways you can’t even imagine or expect! As-Sa’di says in his Tafsir regarding this ayah:

‎ومن معاني اللطيف، أنه الذي يلطف بعبده ووليه، فيسوق إليه البر والإحسان من حيث لا يشعر، ويعصمه من الشر، من حيث لا يحتسب، ويرقيه إلى أعلى المراتب، بأسباب لا تكون من [العبد] على بال، حتى إنه يذيقه المكاره، ليتوصل بها إلى المحاب الجليلة، والمقامات النبيلة.

“From the meaning of (Allah’s name) Al-Lateef is that He is the One Who is kind to His servants and righteous slaves, in a subtle manner. He brings to him kindness and good from where he does not expect, and protects him from evil from where he does not realise. He elevates him to the highest status by means that could ever occur to him — (such as) causing him to experience difficulty (and patience thereafter), so that due to that (trial) he may reach noble aspirations and a high status.”
