People are of Three Types
كانَ يُقالُ: النّاسُ غانِمٌ وسالِمٌ وشاجِبٌ. فالغانِمُ: مَن قالَ خَيْرًا فَغَنِمَ، والسّالِمُ: مَن سَكَتَ سَلِمَ، والشّاجِبُ: مَن قالَ شَرًّا فَشَجَبَ أهْلَكَ نَفْسَهُ
“It used to be said, ‘People are (three types in regards to their speech): the victorious, those who are safe and those who are destroyed. The victorious are those who spoke good. Those who are safe are those who remained silent. Those who are destroyed are those who said evil and so they destroyed themselves.’” — Al-As’ma’i (d.216 AH) (Shu’ab Al-Eman)
